The General

The General

It was in 1992 or 1993, when I had my first sunglass as birthday gift from my parents. They bought me a unique aviator sunglass that widely known as “the general”. The general was a limited Ray Ban sunglasses edition released by Bausch & Lomb USA, in 1987 to commemorate their 50th anniversary.

The General was inspired by the classic styling of Large Metal “aviator” sunglass. It has a bold look that catches the attention. The lenses provide full control over glare and ultraviolet radiation. Comparing to other average version of the aviator Ray Ban sunglasses, the General has thicker arms which look more stylish. This popular sunglass apparently was not only produced in 1987. The Bausch and Lomb decided to continue the General production in limited number, up to mid of 1990’s to satisfy its loyal consumers.

Unfortunately Bausch and Lomb sold their Ray-Ban sunglass division in the late 1990' to the Italian Luxottica Group. Luxottica may own the name “Ray-Ban,” but since they are not Bausch & Lomb, they do not make this special limited edition B&L Ray-Ban “The General” sunglasses.
