AN ANCIENT DANCING
IN ALOR – EAST NUSA TENGGARA
A unique rhythm is played from gong and leather tambour while the Poem is recited loudly by a man, such an ancient mystic sound. Women with sarong are holding each other in the inner circle and moving around with clinking sound come from their feet. At the outer side, men are doing exactly the same. Holding and swinging an antique sword, a man is leading the dance.
The dance is named lego-lego and originated from Alor, Nusa Tenggara Timur Province. It is danced by adults or teenagers to celebrate engagements, thanksgivings, weddings and sometimes for welcoming visitors. You will need to swallow tuak before trance with this ancient dancing.
